The Assistant Elections Commissioner for the Galle District K U Chandralal said that the list of councillors elected to the Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha would be gazetted within the week.
He said that although the Elpitiya PS had a quota of 28 councillors, under the new electoral scheme, the opposition was entitled to an additional councillor bringing the total up to
29 councillors.

He said that there were no serious incidents on or after the election other than a few minor incidents which had been immediately brought under control.
On a complaint received that a minister and a deputy minister had come to influence voters, immediate steps had been taken to repel them and a van transporting voters had also been detained, he added.

He also stated that a youth taking photographs of a marked ballot paper in a polling centre had
been arrested.
The suspects who had been arrested by the police had been released on bail and they had been instructed to be appear before the court on October 17.
