Deputy General Secretary Ruwan Wijewardene insisted that the government should bring to book those responsible for the destruction of the Kurunegala Assembly Hall of King Buwanekabahu instead of making contradictory statements on the issue.

Addressing an election rally in Kurunegala during the weekend, Mr. Wijewardene said similar incidents took place before 2015 too during the Rajapaksa regime and even then such contradictory statements were made to mislead people. “The Colombo Museum was broken into and valuable artifacts were stolen during that regime. Now the present government has once again started destroying artifacts and archeological sites,” he said reminding the people to be mindful of whom they are voting to parliament at the upcoming general elections.

He said the government was only concerned about obtaining a two-thirds majority and not interested in containing the spread of Covid-19 in the country.
