Education activities of many national schools are at a standstill due to procedural issues in transferring teachers to those schools despite the Teacher Transfer Board having recommended the transfer of 6,000 teachers to them.

The President of the All Ceylon United Teachers’ Union, Ven. Yalwela Pannasekara Thera said that this situation had arisen due to various reasons such as delay in sending transfer letters to the teachers, non-assumption of duties by teachers even after receiving letters and teachers not being released from schools due to lack of replacements.

There are 365 national schools in Sri Lanka and measures had been taken to transfer teachers with a service period of more than ten years in the same schools and those teachers who had applied for transfer, with effect from January 1, he added.
