The 28th commemoration of the death of Army Soldier Hasalaka Gamini Kularathne, who sacrificed his life in the attempt to halt the advancement of an LTTE bulldozer fully laden with explosives intruding the Elephant Pass Army Camp in 1991, was held yesterday at the Tourism Development Ministry Auditorium in Kollupitiya.

The Late Hasalaka Gamini Kularathne braved himself by jumping into the approaching LTTE bulldozer, carrying a powerful bomb and exploding it, which resulted in his death and the deaths of several LTTE cadres and the destruction of the bulldozer.   This event was graced by Speaker Karu Jayasuriya, Mass Media and Acting Minister of Defence Ruwan Wijewardene, Tourism Development, Wildlife and Christian Affairs Minister John Amerathunga, State Minister Ranjith Aluvihare and MP Vijith Vijithamuni Soysa.

Speaker Karu Jayasuriya made a special donation to Y. B. Juliet, the mother of the soldier.
