Brazilian imposed life imprisonment

A Brazilian passenger who pleaded guilty after being indicted with smuggling a stock of 312grms of Cocaine was sentenced to life imprisonment by Negombo High Court Judge Amal Ranaraja. The accused Miranda De Samuza Jurazi Eliyaz (36) was father of four children and a worker of a construction project.  


He had been arrested by the Police Anti-Narcotic Burea Unit in the Katunayake Airport on February 16, 2018. The Attorney General had indicted him with smuggling, possessing and trafficking 312grams of Cocaine. Police told Court that the accused had the stock hidden in his baggage.  State Counsel Malik Azeez prosecuted while Attorney-at- Law Manoj Wewita appeared for the accused.
