Accused in Payagala murder case sentenced to death

 Kalutara High Court Judge Wasantha Jinadasa imposed death sentence on the two accused indicted in the Payagala homicide case  after finding them guilty of committing the murder of Mukundadura Upul Ajantha Fonseka on 19th July 2002 in Payagala.   The two accused are Anthonydura Wasantha Silva and Karunamuni Ajith Menaka De Silva.  


Indictments had been served by the Attorney General charging both accused for committing the murder. Both accused had  pleaded not guilty to the charges made against them and had opted for a trial sans a Jury.  
The first accused was represented by Attorney Kanishka Wanniarachchi, while the second was represented by Attorneys Viraj Jayaneththi and Vinod Lanerolle. State Council Sajith Bandara led the prosecution.
