Lanka needs an alternative power against the long standing three main parties

Watching the small screen, the massive crowd at the Galle Face Green on Sunday last, (August 18, 2019) at the nomination of the Presidential candidate of the JVP, was amazingly attractive. The nominee of the National People’s Power Front, the JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake walking majestically and briskly to the podium was impressive. And his speech and Prof. Amarakeerthi’s were in liberal terms and goals targeted. I was very happy that a lady spoke in Tamil and Sinhala so fluently.
But I wonder whether they could capture power as an alternative power against the long standing three main parties, overnight. People have various options and they could change depending on the floating minds of literate but not so analytical masses, particularly of the rustic kind.

I sincerely hope the wretched post of President be abolished soon by whatever Government that captures power in the impending general elections. So until such time, the elected President either Gotabaya Rajapaksa or whoever from others nominated, will remain only a figurehead. Able politicians who are vying or suggested politicians like Sajith Premadasa, Karu Jayasuriya, Ranil Wickremesinghe, Sarath Fonseka or Anura Kumara Dissanayake should return as Members of Parliament, because in the absence of statesmen, we need experienced politicians.

We must have the desirable two party system or the worst, a dark horse like a third party. Other minor parties should be the UNP, the SLPP or the JVP.
The people who represent the minority communities would be wise to join the bigger parties because the majority community politicians are not going to fulfill the ambitions of the minorities. They are interested only in building up the Sinhala nation and Theravada Buddhism.
Majority of the majority community (Nearly 75% of the people are saner, pious, kind-hearted, and friendly).
But they are afraid of the of the fact that they are a minority among the world populous.

It is true Lanka (I avoid Sri because adding that brings ill-will to the nation) is a multi- ethnic, multi- religious and a multi-cultural country. But a handful of racists and extreme terrorists think and believe that the Sinhala are in a majority and Buddhism is the only religion, and therefore the others are pariahs (aliens) and the Sinhala Buddhists own this country
Anyhow, let us hope that things will shape for the better,
As for the Tamil politicians, I can only say that they must disband their warring parties and join whatever party they choose in the interest of the country at large. Feudalism is no more worth. The future lies in enlightened reality of world trends. It is a digital world now.
