165th Sree Narayana Guru Jayanthi celebrations

In commemoration of Sree Narayana Guru Dev, who is a great Indian social reformer and a spiritual saint of the 20th Century from Kerala in India, the Sree Narayana Guru Society of Sri Lanka will host the 165th Sree Narayana Guru Jayanthi celebrations, on December 8 this year. 

Issuing a press release the Sree Narayana Guru Society of Sri Lanka stated that Sree Narayana Guru Dev had been instrumental in sharing his philosophy of “One Caste One Religion One God for Mankind” which has spread beyond the shores of India and which is very appropriate for the entire world in today’s context.   

“On the occasion of 165th Sree Narayana Guru Jayanthi celebrations, Sree Narayana Guru Society of Sri Lanka will be celebrating Guru Jayanthi on Sunday, 8th December, 2019. at 4.30 p.m at Sree Narayana Guru Memorial Malayalee Hall, Narayana Guru Junction, 133, Layards Broadway, Colombo – 14 under the leadership of Shri M. K. Rahulan, President of Sree Narayana Guru Society of Sri Lanka. The Society will be organizing an evening of Kerala cultural programmes with donations to the needy as part of the event.   

Hon. Mano Ganesan, Former Minister of National Integration, Official Languages, Social Progress and Hindu Cultural Affairs would grace the occasion as Chief Guest along with other officials and dignitaries.   

Sree Narayana Guru Society of Sri Lanka has been incorporated by Act No. 48 of 1980 in the Parliament of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and is involved in spreading the teachings of Sree Narayana Guru Dev as well as carrying out socially beneficial projects.   

Sree Narayana Guru Dev was a great Indian social reformer and a spiritual saint of the 20th Century from Kerala, India, who through his practical vision and spiritual leadership transformed the social outlook of Kerala which has paved the way for a progressive Society of today promoting new values of spiritual freedom, social equality and upliftment of the downtrodden. Guru tried for the unification of the Hindus who were divided on the basis of caste and sub-castes.   

His teachings propagate a core philosophy of “One Caste One Religion One God for Mankind” which has spread beyond the shores of India and which is very appropriate for the entire world today.   

Sree Narayana Guru Dev had visited Sri Lanka two times, once in 1918 and again in 1926. A standing statue of Sree Narayana Guru was erected last year, in 2018, to commemorate the 100th year of the Guru’s first visit to Sri Lanka.
