The Secretariat Halt Railway Station which is situated in between the Colombo Fort and Slave Island Railway stations and was considered a tourist attraction has become an eyesore. When President Gotabaya Rajapaksa was the then defence secretary a programme was launched to beautify the railway station which is in close proximity to several leading hotels. However, it can be seen that the railway station has not been properly maintained today.

Not only tourists, a large number of public and private sector employees use the Secretariat Halt Railway Station to reach their offices and then back home.

However, only a handful of seats are available at the railway station for the large number of commuters who are waiting for a train. No proper shade has been provided in case of a heavy rain. The attention of the Railways Department should be paid immediately to the issue.
