Law & Order: Special Victims Unit fans rejoiced in late March when it was revealed that Christopher Meloni will return as Elliot Stabler in a new SVU spin-off called Organized Crime, reuniting with Mariska Hargitay’s Olivia Benson.

Meloni, 59, set the Internet ablaze when he shared a selfie with Hargitay, explaining on Sirius XM’s The Jess Cagle Show how the reunion selfie came to be.

He also shed some light on how his Elliot Stabler character has changed, since he was last seen on SVU in 2011. When Cagle asked where Meloni and Hargitay were when they took the selfie, the actor said he was simply in the neighbourhood.

She has some digs out in the country there, so I was out there visiting and doing other stuff and I thought, “Why not just drop by for a spot of tea?”’ he said. ‘So that’s what we did. We broke bread, we had some laughs,’ he said, adding they can be ‘away from each other’ for many years and ‘just pick up where we left off.’ When Cagle asked if he’s started filming Organized Crime, Meloni referred to it as a ‘pandemic production.’

‘You know, everything is just insane,” he said. ‘You get new edicts out of New York City and New York state, and for good reason. And then you get new rules and regulations coming out of Universal, and then from the unions.’ ‘You have to service a lot of masters right now, just to make sure everybody is safe, right? What’s the new norm for shooting?’ he added.
