Q: My daughter who is 16+ years of age has a multiple entry visa to UK valid until 24/06/2010 with an endorsement “C-visit-Child accompanied”. A copy of the visa is attached for your perusal. She intends to travel to UK with her mother for a short holiday. From the UK her mother will be proceeding to Gibraltar where she works. Will my daughter be allowed to return to Sri Lanka alone on a non-stop flight?
Thank you for your question.
The endorsement on your daughter’s visa is designed to ensure that when travelling to the UK the welfare/care of the child is considered and the Visa Officer when considering the application is happy that arrangements are sufficient. When leaving the UK the airline/immigration authorities will check that she has permission to enter the country she is travelling to and if satisfied will allow her to travel. In this case, provided there is no requirement for her to return to Sri Lanka with her mother, she should be allowed to travel alone.
Q: I am a student, and I’m going to apply for a UK student visa this week, but I am facing a major issue: a person is warning me that if I apply for a visa, he is going to send false information about me to the High Commission. I am feeling very sad and worried. If such a situation arises, I want to know how the High Commission will handle it. Will they believe the false information? And will my visa application be turned down if the information supplied is detrimental to my visa application?
Thank you for your question.
Each application for a visa is treated individually on its merits. Allegations made in connection with visa applications are fully investigated to establish whether they can be substantiated. However, if an application is genuine and submitted with bona fide supporting documents and any allegation made cannot be substantiated the visa application should be successful.
Q: I am from Sri Lanka. Please help me with a problem. My son has already obtained a visa for study in UK. Now his wife wants to accompany him to UK. For what period of time should she show the relevant funds needed in her bank account? Twenty-eight days or three months? Can I fill the vaf 9 or vaf l0 application by computer? Will the Visa Officer accept it? Can you also please clarify the requirement: ‘You must submit a paper copy of the application’? What do you mean by ‘paper copy’?
Thank you for your question.
At present the ability to submit an application for a visa online is not available in Sri Lanka. It is therefore necessary to complete a paper copy of the form and submit that along with supporting documents in person to the office of our commercial partner, VFS, in Colombo.
The applicant has to attend in person as it is mandatory for visa applicants to have their fingerprints taken. Details of how to make a visa application are explained on the VFS Sri Lanka website: www.vfs uk-lk.com
The evidence of funds must show that the applicant has held the required sum for a twenty-eight day period ending no more than one month before the date of the application. Q: I work in the government sector. I want to follow my postgraduate studies in the UK but I don’t have enough money to do that. So I am going to obtain a loan from a state bank for my higher studies. The loan is for my course fees, living expenses and cost of air tickets. If I can get the loan, is it possible to get a student visa?
Thank you for your question.
To meet the maintenance requirement for Points Based System tier 4, applicants have to provide documentary evidence that they have the required funds. The documentary evidence should be in the form set out in PBS published guidance. For tier 4 applications a loan from a financial institution regulated by the official regulatory body for the country the institution is in and where the money is held is acceptable provided the document contains certain mandatory information. For comprehensive guidance on the requirements to be met for PBS tier 4 applications please see www.ukba.homeffice.Qov.uk
