Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (TRC) Director General Priyantha Kariyapperuma who handed over his resignation yesterday said his decision to resign was not politically motivated.

Mr. Kariyapperuma told the Daily Mirror he resigned in keeping with the procedure requiring heads of the institutions to resign after national elections.

Citing another reason he said he needed time to study satellite technology and space technology further. “I needed to study these technologies as Sri Lanka is to set up a space agency soon and people with knowledge in these fields are needed in such a situation,” he said.

Mr. Kariyapperuma said he had already sent his letter of resignation to President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday. He is the second head of a government institution to tender resignation

papers during  the past two days.

Earlier Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority and Tourism Promotion Bureau Chairperson Bernard Goonatillake, resigned from his post on Monday.
