I will take legal action if the CID and the Bribery Commission fail to arrest Rishad Bathiudeen’s brother in the next few days, opposition MP S.B. Dissanayaka said yesterday.

He said several MPs and Buddhist monks had lodged complaints against Mr. Bathiudeen’s brother alleging bribery, corruption and killing but they have ignored all of them and had not arrested him.

The MP told the media that he has deeds of land plots Mr. Bathiudeen acquired by illegal means and evidence to prove that he and his brother were associated with Muslim extremist terrorists.

He said he would complain shortly to President Maithripala Sirisena, the CID and the BC again against Mr. Bathiudeen and added he has a file with reports of various crimes and corruptions allegedly committed by Mr. Bathiudeen.

The MP said the government was out to destroy the Samurdhi Movement he started as the subjuect minister under the Rajapaksa regime and said the government was using the Rs.200 billion Samurdhi fund for the UNP’s election campaign.

“The “Samurdhi’ was introduced to empower low income families after studying similar projects in Malaysia, Bangladesh, Korea and Israel. I admit it was politicized during the Rajapaksa regime but was a huge blessing to lneedy families. Today, priority has been given to party politics and new Samurdhi beneficiaries are chosen at Sirikotha by UNP members.
In the past the list of Samurdhi recipients was prepared by the Divisional Secretary, Grama Niladari and Samurdhi officer. This is a tragedy. I plead with the government not to destroy Samurdhi movement launched to eradicate poverty in the country,” he said.

Commenting on the no-confidence motion, the MP said it was a JVP attempt to strengthen the government.
On forthcoming presidential poll, he said the President was determined not to split the votes against the UNP.
