The UNP will be forced to take to the streets to prevent the Government from destroying Sri Lanka’s forest cover, its Deputy Leader Ruwan Wijewardene said yesterday.

Mr. Wijewardene who participated in a token demonstration on Tuesday said the Government had already destroyed 50,000 acres in Anavilundawa and nearly 100,000 acres across the nation. “We will be compelled to take to the streets to prevent the Government from destroying forest cover,” Mr. Wijewardene said.   “We cannot have large protests at the moment, given the country’s situation, but we will be compelled to have a series of protests in the future,” he said.
