Two COVID-19 patients in critical condition

  • Both being treated at ICU in IDH
  • 92 tested positive upto yesterday
  • First detected patient discharged from hospital

Two COVID-19 infected patients were in critical condition yesterday at the ICU of the NIID commonly known as the IDH Hospital, according to the Government Epidemiology Unit (GEU), while the first local patient - the tour guide who was detected as being infected on March 11 - was discharged from hospital after being completely recovered.

 

 

  • 227 Sri Lankans and 7 foreigners were under observation
  • 92 COVID-19 cases tested positive in Sri Lanka upto yesterday 

 

 

  The number of COVID-19 cases tested positive in Sri Lanka rose to 92 yesterday with five more Sri Lankans detected with the viral infection.   


Out of 92, 19 victims of COVID 19 were under treatment at hospitals in the Districts of Colombo, 10 at Gampaha, 8 at Kalutara, 6 at Puttalam, 3 at Ratnapura and one each at hospitals in Kurunegala, Galle, Kegalle, Batticaloa, Badulla and Jaffna districts, 32 at quarantine centres while three patients were foreigners.   


Meanwhile, a total of 227 Sri Lankans and 7 foreign nationals were under medical observation at 24 hospitals across the country, namely 90 Sri Lankans and two foreigners at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID) Angoda, 5 at National Hospital Colombo, 18 at Teaching Hospital, Ragama, 8 Sri Lankans and 3 foreign nationals at Karapitiya Teaching Hospital Galle, 6 at Teaching Hospital Anuradhapura and 2 at Teaching Hospital, Ratnapura, 18 at District Hospital, Negombo , 6 at Teaching Hospital, Kurunegala, 2 at Lady Ridgeway Hospital, Borella and one foreigner and one Sri Lankan each at Teaching Hospital, Jaffna.   


 Six Sri Lankans and one foreigner were at the District Hospital, Polonnaruwa, two foreigners, 19 Sri Lankans at District Hospital Gampaha, 5 at Base Hospital, Hambantota, 25 Sri Lankans at Welikanda Base Hospital, 9 at District Hospital Kalutara, 3 at Base Hospital, Moneragala, 1 at Castle Street Maternity Hospital were under medical observation yesterday..   
 In the global scene, there were 343,421 confirmed cases of COVID 19 infections by late afternoon yesterday with 14.777 deaths reported in 182 countries.  With China having been able to control the deadly viral infection, Italy has become the worst affected country with 5,476 deaths by yesterday as opposed to China’s 3,270 total deaths. In China, the number of recovered patients rose to 99,068. The number of deaths from COVID 19 stood at 1,813 in Spain and 1,685 in Iran yesterday,
