Three police officers have been interdicted yesterday in connection with the shooting incident in Moratuwa where a fisherman was killed.

Accordingly, a Sergeant and two Police Constables have been interdicted by the Acting IGP following an internal investigation conducted by the Mount Lavinia SSP.

A 39-year-old fisherman travelling in a three-wheeler was stopped at a police roadblock at Lunawa, Moratuwa and was shot dead by police following an altercation on Friday night.

According to the Police, two three-wheelers were stopped at the roadblock.
It was reported that the men in the three-wheelers allegedly obstructed the policemen from carrying out their duties.

One of the policemen had opened fire and the injured fisherman succumbed after he was admitted to the Colombo South Teaching Hospital.

The deceased was a resident of Lunawa, Moratuwa.

Police said the interdicted officers would be produced in the Moratuwa Magistrate’s Court today to provide statements over the death.
