Health authorities warned that there was a threat of a vaccine centre coronavirus cluster emerging in the country.  Health Promotion Bureau Director, Dr Dinesh Koggalage said that people gathering in large numbers at vaccination centres had posed a threat of new clusters emerging.

“We see some people storming centres to get vaccinated. They must understand that this could result in a new cluster emerging,” Koggalage told reporters.

He urged the public to only visit the vaccination centres in their respective areas and not outside.
“If not you may get the virus before you are vaccinated,” he said.

A mass vaccination program is currently underway using the Sinopharm and Sputnik V vaccines.
People turned up in large numbers at vaccination centres in the Western Province over the past few days to get their first job.

Dr Dinesh Koggalage also said that people placed under isolation must not attempt to visit a vaccination centre.
The Health Promotion Bureau also advised mothers who have received the Sinopharm vaccine and are breastfeeding, to continue breastfeeding.
