Letters have been sent yesterday to the striking railway workers considering them as having vacated their posts, Railways General Manager Dilantha Fernando said.
Speaking to the Daily Mirror he said the relevant letters were sent through their respective sub-department heads.
“The department was not informed by the strikers about their trade union action. Not reporting to work for 48 hours without issuing prior notice, will be considered as having vacated their posts,” he said.
The Railways workers were on strike from last week demanding the implementation of the cabinet’s decision which was subsequently approved by the cabinet on May 18, 2018, to rectify their salary anomalies.
