The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) yesterday issued notice on former State Minister and SJB MP Ashok Abeysinghe to appear before CID today to record a statement over a speech he made regarding Easter Sunday attacks, Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said.

He said six Parlimentarians have lodged a complaint with the CID on Sunday, seeking an investigation into the statement by MP Abeysinghe.

Addressing a public gathering, Mr. Abeysinghe said it was President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and former Minister Basil Rajapaksa who orchestrated the terror attacks. The funding for their activities, according to Mr. Abeysinghe, was provided by Nissanka Senadhipathi.

“The MPs who have complained to the CID said that the speech made by MP Abeysinghe is bogus and made a request to conduct a full-scale investigation into the statement,” he said.   The CID issued notice on the MP as he did not report to the CID on Monday.  Nissanka Senadhipathi has also lodged a complaint with the CID on Monday.  MPs Udayana Kirindigoda, Pramitha Bandara Tennakoon, Sanjeewa Edirimanne, Madhura Vithana, Jagath Kumara and Milan Jayathilaka have signed the complaint.
