Speaker acknowledges Sajith as Opposition Leader

 Speaker Karu Jayasuriya has accepted the letter sent by UNP General Secretary Akila Viraj Kariyawasam proposing UNP MP Sajith Premadasa as the Opposition Leader yesterday evening, Speaker’s Media Unit said.  

The appointment of Mr. Premadasa would come into effect after Speaker announces it officially when parliament convenes on January 3, 2020.   

Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa was named as Leader of Opposition and was sent to Speaker last evening following him being named as the Opposition Leader by UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe at a special meeting held in party headquarters ‘Sirikotha’ yesterday afternoon.
