Some people in Jaffna violating quarantine rules- Police

Police said it had to act in a different manner when carrying out duties with regard to quarantine laws in Jaffna, Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said some individuals in those areas are not adhering to quarantine regulations to prevent Covid-19.

A video was circulated on social media showing a group of police officers chasing behind people roaming on the roads, violating quarantine laws due to which they were taken into custody after being carried away.


It was reported that the operation was launched in Jaffna on Wednesday.


Accordingly, those who were not wearing face masks in public were seen carried by the police officers and put into a bus to be taken to a quarantine centre. DIG Rohana said that the officers had to act in such manner as the individual was disobeying quarantine rules.


Police and health authorities are conducting special operations in various parts of the country to locate the persons and institutions that violate health instructions amidst a rapid spread of the COVID-19 virus, police said.
