Rs.12.35 mn paid to victims of Easter Sunday massacre

The Ministry of Education says Rs.12.35 million has been paid to the families of those  who were killed in the Easter Sunday massacre.

Accordingly, Rs. 5.6 million has been paid to the families of 24 children and 28 parents of  children who died. Additionally,  a sum of  Rs. 6.75 million has been paid to 43 parents of 45 children who died in the Easter Sunday attacks,  Education Director of Suraksha Insurance Trust Fund, Renuka Pieris said.   


Upto the 30th of last month a total sum of Rs.532,976,108 (Rs.53.3 million) has been paid  to those who have become eligible for aid under the Suraksha Insurance Scheme.  


There are about 4.5 million students between the ages of 5 to 21 years from 11,240 schools in the country who are eligible for benefits from the Suraksha Insurance scheme.
