Residents of Sella Kataragama attacked by indecent bathers

Six residents from Sella Kataragama were hospitalised after being attacked by a group of inebriated youths who had been bathing in the Menik Ganga in an indecent manner on January 18.

According to the Kataragama Police, A group of youth who were from Padukka had been bathing in the Menik Ganga in an indecent manner sans clothing.   


A female resident from Sella Kataragama who had been bathing nearby had noticed the naked youth and requested them to behave themselves since the common bathing spot was used by the public including young women. Following which a harsh exchange of words had taken place which escalated into a brawl.   


The group of youth who were inebriated, had then proceeded to abuse a group of girls who had attempted to settle the quarrel. Subsequently, the Kataragama Police had arrived at the scene and arrested all the drunken youth. One woman and five men who had received injuries due to the brawl have been admitted to the Kataragama District Hospital.   


The 34 individuals who attacked the six residents from Sella Kataragama were produced before the Tissamaharama Acting Magistrate Krishantha Abeysinghe yesterday and were ordered to be remanded till January 24.   


The residents who sustained injuries have been transferred to the Hambantota Base Hospital from the Kataragama Hospital.
