Prevailing showers, windy condition to continue: Met. Dept.

Prevailing showery and windy conditions are expected to continue further during the coming days due to active South-west monsoon conditions across the island, Department of Meteorology said yesterday.   

Showers are expected in the Central, Sabaragamuwa, Western and North-western provinces and in Galle and Matara Districts while the rains expected to exceed 100 mm in some areas particularly Sabaragamuwa and Central Provinces.  


Fairly heavy rainfalls above 50 mm are likely at some places in the Western province and in Galle and Matara Districts. Strong gusty winds about (50-60) kmph are expected across the island, particularly in the Northern, North-central and North-western Provinces, Trincomalee and Hambantota Districts and in the western slopes of the central hills according to the Department of Meteorology.  Highest rainfall of 151 mm was recorded at Nuwara Eliya yesterday while Katunayake received a rain fall of 29 mm, Mattala 12.5 mm and Katugastota received a rainfall of 17 mm.
