Polls propaganda material only allowed on candidate’s vehicle: EC

The display of slogans, poll symbols, propaganda stickers with photographs or flags promoting a candidate on vehicles will only be permitted on vehicles in which the contesting candidate travels and not otherwise, the National Elections Commission said.   

The Elections Commission also said it had received complaints regarding the display of slogans, symbols, stickers with photographs and flags promoting party candidates on private vehicles including private buses and three wheelers in contravention of election laws.  

“The display of such material on vehicles other than those in which the candidate travels is an offence under Section 74 of the Parliamentary Elections Act, No.l of 1981,” it said.  
“Necessary instructions have already been issued to the respective Police Stations to conduct random search patrols covering all police areas to remove such material displayed on private vehicles including private buses and three wheelers,” it added.  

Meanwhile, the National Elections Commission has so far received 2,366 complaints on election law violations and violent activities, the Commission said. 

 
It said 644 violent activities had been reported to the National Election Complaint Management Centre while 1,722 complaints had been reported to the District Election Complaint Management Centres.   
During the 24 hours ending at 4 pm on Wednesday, 160 complaints had been reported in connection with election law violations.
