People ignore health guidelines Two areas in Colombo at risk of re-isolation - Police

It  was observed that people in several areas in Colombo disobeying  quarantine regulations and are engaging in various activities despite health guidelines, police said yesterday.

Police  Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said the policemen in civvies have reported that several people, especially in Colombo North and  Colombo Central are violating health guidelines. “As a result, there is a possibility of new COVID-19 clusters and re-emergence of sub clusters in those areas,” he said.


DIG Rohana said that if the danger arises again, those areas may have to be re-isolated. He said that the people in those areas should be more vigilant in this regard.


Meanwhile,  he said that all the police divisions in Colombo that were  under isolation for a longer period of time have now been released. 24 persons who were not wearing face masks and not  maintaining social distancing were arrested on Tuesday (12) and 2,462  persons have been arrested since October 30.


In  addition, another 2,471 people who were not wearing face masks in the Western Province have  been subject to RATs or PCR tests and 47  of them have been found infected with COVID-19 previously.


He said steps have been taken to resume Rapid Antigen tests at 11 exit points in the Western Province from yesterday (13).


Similar operation had been conducted from December 18, 2020 to January 5, 2021.
