New UK strain in SL Visiting English cricketer found positive: DDGh

The person who was found to have been infected with the new COVID-19 variant is a visiting overseas cricketer who had come from UK on January (3), Deputy Director General of Public Health Services Dr. Hemantha Herath said.   

Speaking to the Daily Mirror he said all precautionary measures have been taken in order to prevent the new virus spreading from him, since the day he was diagnosed with the virus. “Hence, there was no necessity for people to panic but follow strict Health guidelines as usual,” he said.   

 

 


England all-rounder Moeen Ali has been tested positive for COVID-19 last Monday (4).Ali, who is part of the touring England squad that landed in Sri Lanka on January 3 for a two-Test series, returned a positive result on the PCR test conducted on arrival at the Hambantota Airport.


The first test match between two countries is to be held today (14).
