Minister Sarath Weerasekera and TNA MP M. A. Sumanthiran was engaged in a heated argument in Parliament on Saturday where Mr. Weerasekera alleged that the latter had commemorated an LTTE Leader.
The argument flared up when Mr. Sumanthiran raised a privilege issue against the Presidential Commission on Political Victimisation whom be said had falsely accused him of evading the commission. “I was summoned to the commission several times but I sent in my response and even went before the commission once. I request the Speaker to take action against this move. Also, my parliamentary privilege is violated as the summons are being sent only in Sinhalese,” he said.
Minister Weerasekera who responded, questioned as to how the MP could talk about parliamentary privileges when his presence in the House is questionable.
