Majority of positive cases reported from Colombo

Army Commander Shavendra Silva said that 237 of the 335 new cases identified on Thursday were from the Colombo district.  Lt. Gen. Silva said among them 161 were identified from the Colombo city limits, 17 from the Kesbewa Medical Officer of Health Division and 21 from Mattakkuliya.

 He said the Jayewardenepura University was conducting an examination over the rapid spread of Covid-19 from three clusters.  


He said the examination was being carried out from Covid-19 samples taken from Kandakadu, Minuwangoda and Peliyagoda clusters. He said they will receive the reports of the examination soon.  


 Meanwhile, the Commander said the decision to impose curfew in the Western province was taken as the majority of the cases were reported from this Province.  


 The Commander said that the situation in the Gampaha District was improving compared to the past week.   
However, cases are still being reported from Wattala and Mahara areas. The highest number of cases was reported from the Colombo district yesterday.
