A large number of Police personnel have been stationed in different places to photograph drivers who violate lane law, Senior DIG of the Western Province and Traffic Deshabandu Tennakoon said.

He said the drivers who were violating the lane law would be summoned for an awareness programme at the weekend.

“The photographs of the drivers violating lane laws will be shown to them when they are summoned for the awareness programme so that the drivers themselves could realise their mistakes and rectify them,” he said.
“We give priority not to fine or take the errant drivers to court but we are trying to educate them on lane-law and discipline them through self-understanding,” he said.

DIG Tennakoon said they observed yesterday that most drivers were beginning to adopt to lane laws gradually and added they expected that drivers would be disciplined soon.
