Kandakadu yields 477 COVID - 19 patients 600 persons sent for quarantine

As many as 477 COVID -19 patients were reported from the Drug Rehabilitation Centre in Kandakadu alone, and 600 persons from five different areas have been sent for quarantine, according to health sources. 

 Most persons who have been sent for quarantine were from the Rajangana area and there are about 70 schoolchildren among them, the health sources said.  


Those under quarantine are from Habaraduwa, Kandy, Kahawatta, Arachchikattuwa and Rajanganaya areas and four officials from those areas attached to the Rehabilitation Centre have been infected COVID -19 Virus. Accordingly, the total number of patients hospitalized due to COVID -19 is 620.  


The number of patients who have recovered from this disease is 1981 and the total number of Corona patients detected from Sri Lanka remains at  2612.  


A resident from the Heenatigala area in Habaraduwa who acts as an advisor in the Drug Rehabilitation Centre in Kandakadu has been infected COVID -19 virus and  30 of his associates have been directed for self-quarantine.  
He had gone to a textile shop in Nalagasdeniya in Hikkaduwa with his wife who is a teacher in a school in Gonapinuwala in Hikkaduwa and 12 salesgirls of that shop have been directed for self-quarantine.  


In addition, the teacher, her parents and a sister who are resident in Gonapinuwala area have been directed for self-quarantine.  


Health sources said that an army officer who served in the Drug Rehabilitation Centre in Kandakadu and 12 of his close associates had been infected with the COVID -19 virus and 300 persons have being quarantined so far.  
This army officer is a resident in Rajanganaya 5th km post area in Anuradhapura and his 10 year-old male child and one and half year-old child have been infected with this virus. One child who is in grade five had gone to school. 70 schoolchildren in Rajanganaya school in tract 1,150 people who attended a funeral ceremony and 80 people who attended an alms giving and several others from Rajanganaya area have been directed for self-quarantine.  In addition, another army officer from Kundasale in Kandy who is employed in Kandakadu Rehabilitation Centre had been infected with COVID-19 virus and 40 of his associates have been directed for self-quarantine by evening, yesterday (12).  Some associates of that officer attached to the Rehabilitation Centre in Kandakadu have been directed for self-quarantine by last evening. Another army officer in the rehabilitation centre who is a resident of Arachchikattuwa has been infected with the COVID -19 virus and as a result, his family members and their associates have also being quarantined.  


In the meantime, another officer of the Kandakadu centre who had gone to his wife’s house in Endana in Kahawatte and the members of four houses in that area including the two children of this officer’s wife are being quarantined.  


In addition, 18 employees of two shops in Kahawatte are being quarantined.
