Kalagedihena attack: Math tutor among eight remanded till July 29

Eight suspects including math tutor Dinesh Nuwan Amaratunga, who surrendered to court over the alleged attack on a van at Kalagedihena, were remanded till July 29 by the Attanagalle Magistrate yesterday. 

Police said the 38-year-old math tutor who owned the Prado jeep, Udam Indula Sampath Bandara Amaratunga (38), Chamara Dilum Kumara (45) and H. Sanath Akalanka (24) surrendered to court yesterday. Police said they were all residents in Ingiriya. 


Earlier, four suspects were arrested over the incident after they surrendered to the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD). 


The incident was reported on Thursday from Kalagedihena in which the suspect’s private security personnel attacked a van for allegedly not allowing their convoy to overtake. 
The attack, captured on surveillance camera, had taken place on the Colombo-Kandy  Main Road at Kalagedihena. Video footage shows the Prado (CAG-0550) and a Defender (CAD-8850) involved in the incident. 


It was revealed that the Prado had been registered under Dinesh Nuwan Amaratunga and the Defender under Udam Indula Sampath Bandara Amaratunga. 
The Defender was found on Friday from Elhena Road, Maharagama.
