Illegally assembled car; Ex-female councillor arrested in Colombo

  • Investigations revealed that the vehicle had been assembled in Sri Lanka  with spare parts brought down from overseas violating Customs  Regulations.

The Police Special Task Force arrested a former female councillor of the Colombo Municipal Council in Colombo -13 with a car assembled in Sri Lanka in violation of Customs laws. 

Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said that the 56-year old woman was arrested based on information received by the Intelligence Units of the Police Special Task Force.  
Investigations revealed that the vehicle had been assembled in Sri Lanka with spare parts brought down from overseas violating Customs Regulations.   


DIG Rohana said the woman did not posses any legal document to prove ownership to the vehicle.  
The suspect was handed over to the Fore Shore Police and was to be produced before the Hulftsdorp Magistrate.
