Explosives found buried in Oluvil

A T-56 assault rifle, a magazine, 30 bullets, seven detonators and several gelignite sticks were found buried in Akkaraipattu, Palamunai yesterday, Police Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekera said.  

He said chemical substances such as urea and ammonia were also found buried among the weapons. He said the equipment were recovered by the Ampara Police following a tip-off received from the State Intelligence Service (SIS), buried in a land owned by Salim Mohammed Haleem who was an associate of Kalmunai Siyam,  the Ampara District leader of National Thowheed Jamath (NTJ) near the Oluvil Harbour. 


Earlier, the police also recovered more than 3,000 CDs contained preachings of NTJ leader Mohamed Saharan.  


Further investigations are underway.
