A total of 1,034 complaints of election law violations and violence had been reported between October 8 to 19, the Elections Commission said yesterday.

It said 421 complaints had been reported to the National Election Complaint Management Centre, while 613 complaints had been reported to the District Election Complaint Management Centres.

A total of 992 incidents of election law violations, eight violent activities and 34 other cases were among those complaints.

During the 24 hours from Friday (18) to Saturday at 4.00 p.m., 96 complaints had been reported in connection with both election law violations and violent activities.  Earlier, the Elections Commission said that it has decided to open complaint offices to investigate election complaints at the Elections Secretariat in Rajagiriya and all district offices to entertain complaints relating to the forthcoming Presidential Election.

These complaint offices are established in collaboration with the police and after investigating the complaints received during the presidential elections this year, new laws are to be promulgated to prevent issues that are seen as routinely happening during elections.
