Dr. Harini named for NPP’s national list seat

Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, who is a senior lecturer of the Department of Social Studies at the Open University of Sri Lanka, was yesterday named for the National List seat of the National People’s Power (NPP).  

She had done her PhD in Social Anthropology from the University of Edinburgh where her dissertation work explored the nexus between the state, development policy and practice within the bureaucracy, specifically in relation to probation and child care services in Sri Lanka.   


Her duties included research in the areas of youth unemployment and conflict, gender, child protection, globalisation and development.   


She was a member of the NPP’s education committee which drafted the education related policies in its manifesto launched aiming last presidential election.  
The NPP which obtained 445,958 votes at the general election received two seats and one seat through the National List.
