The Ceylon Workers’ Congress (CWC) has yesterday requested Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa to give nominations to Jeewan Thondaman to contest the General Election from Nuwara Eliya in lieu of demised Minister Arumugam Thondaman, the Prime Minister’s office said.

Jeewan is the son of late Arumugam Thondaman.

The Political Committee of the CWC has taken this decision and the Committee members conveyed the message to Prime Minister Rajapaksa yesterday at his residence at Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo.
The request was officially conveyed by the Party’s Vice Chairman Senthil Thondaman.

The CWC is a constituent of the Sri Lanka Nidahas Podujana Sandhanaya. Since the late minister’s nomination has already been handed over for Nuwara Eliya, the CWC requested to substitute Jeewan Thondaman’s name.
Prime Minister Rajapaksa commended the move to field Jeewan Thondaman for Nuwara Eliya and said a decision would be taken in this regard in the future.

CWC members D. Mathi Yogarajah, M. Romeshwaran, A.P. Shakthivel, A. Philip Kumar, K. Kanagaraj, L. Barathidasan and Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Chairman Prof. G.L. Peiris and Party Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam were also present.
