Proper investigations have to be conducted to identify the origins of new clusters of COVID-19 while those who are responsible for any negligence should be made to pay damages, two SJB MPs said yesterday.

SJB MPs Patali Champika Ranawaka and Mayantha Dissanayake told a press conference that an investigation has to be conducted to identify the origins of new clusters. “An investigation has to be conducted to find out whether there has been any negligence on the part of Brandix and whether there had been any violation of quarantine laws. The company should be made to pay damages if there has been any negligence on its part,” Mr. Ranawaka said.

Also Mr. Ranawaka said the Government should inform the people of the strategies it hopes to follow to control the pandemic. “Countries in the world had followed two strategies to contain the spread of the disease. Countries such as USA had focused more on keeping the economy going while dealing with the pandemic, whereas countries such as New Zealand had focused more on controlling the pandemic. However the Sri Lankan government is yet to announce the strategy it intends to follow,” he said.

“This strategy should be drawn up with the advice of health experts rather than the military. Military should be used to enforce quarantine curfew,” he added.
