COVID-19 cases in Colombo continues to grow; cases surpass 8,500

COVID-19 cases in the Colombo District and from the Minuwangoda and Peliyagoda clusters continue to grow as more than 8,500 patients have been detected as of yesterday since October 4.    

Accordingly, the total number of COVID-19-19 cases identified from Minuwangoda-Peliyagoda cluster increased to 8,575 as of yesterday morning with 253 patients identified from Colombo on Thursday. Majority cases were identified from Kotahena, Grandpass and Dematagoda areas.   


The total number of covid positive cases reported from Minuwangoda and Peliyagoda Fish Market cluster stands at 18,487 as of Thursday. Of them, 3,059 were from the Minuwangoda cluster and all other 15,428 were from the Peliyagoda Fish Market cluster.   


Meanwhile, 12,524 fully-recovered patients from both Minuwangoda and fish market clusters have been discharged from hospitals.   


Meanwhile, 5,802 patients were reported from Gampaha District while 906 cases were reported in the Kalutara and 378 cases from Kandy and 284 cases from Kurunegala Districts were also reported since October 4 this year.   
In addition, 210 patients from Kegalle, 189 cases from Ratnapura, 99 cases from Nuwara Eliya and 97 patients from Puttalam were reported.

Meanwhile, the number of patients linked to the prison cluster in Sri Lanka increased to 821 as of yesterday. Inmates and officials from the Welikada, Bogambara, Boossa, Kuruwita, and Mahara prisons were among those identified patients.   


Meanwhile, nearly 400 Sri Lankans have arrived in the country on Thursday.   


Among them, 191 passengers from Australia, 50 from Qatar, 52 from Dubai, 12 passengers from Japan and 75 passengers from Italy have arrived in the country.   


All those passengers were referred to Quarantine Centres managed by tri-services upon their arrival after formalities at the airport.   


The total number of PCR test conducted on Thursday were 12,105.   


Meanwhile, Army Commander Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva said a decision would be taken in connection with the areas currently under lockdown in Colombo and Gampaha areas.   


He said the decision would be taken after reviewing the current situation in those areas during the weekend.   
Currently, 13 police areas and two Grama Niladhari Divisions in Colombo, five police areas in Gampaha and several Grama Niladhari Divisions in Kalutara, Kandy and Puttalam are isolated. 

 
Meanwhile, the Akkaraipaththu area in the Ampara District is also isolated since yesterday after several cases were discovered.
