AG directs criminal probe on ex-Defence Secy.

Considering the recommendations in the final report of the special board of inquiry appointed to inquire into the Easter attacks, Attorney General (AG) Dappula de Livera has instructed the Acting IGP to initiate criminal investigations against former Secretary to the Defence Ministry Hemasiri Fernando over his failure to prevent or minimise the terrorist attacks, Coordinating Officer to AG, SC Nishara Jayaratne told Daily Mirror. 

“I have considered the contents of the final report dated June 7 titled special board of inquiry appointed to inquire into the series of incidents related to the explosions that occurred at several places on April 21. In the above context, and taken into consideration the recommendations of the board of inquiry, you are hereby advised to take steps to initiate criminal investigations with regard to the major lapses attributed to the former Secretary to the Defence Ministry Hemasiri Fernando for his failure to prevent or minimise the attacks,” he wrote.
