President Gotabaya Rajapaksa told Bangladeshi High Commissioner Tareq Md. Ariful Islam that Sri Lanka intended to foster bilateral cooperation with regional countries including Bangladesh in identified areas, according to a statement from his office .
The statement said the High Commissioner presented credentials to the President. Afterwards, the President briefed the envoy about the present status of Sri Lankan economy and steps taken to control the pandemic.
He said there was scope for maritime cooperation between the two countries as littoral states of the Indian Ocean. The High Commissioner said his country attached great importance to it. He recalled the invitation for the President to visit Bangladesh.
The President said he would consider a visit once the present difficult situation was over .
