The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) yesterday challenged President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to reveal the 106 pages of the presidential commission on bond scam, which was hidden by the previous regime, before reprimanding Central Bank officials for their failure.
JVP Central Committee member Wasantha Samarasinghe told a news conference that the government which promised to bring to book the culprits of the Central Bank bond scam, had failed to do it even eight months after it came to power. He said President Rajapaksa should act on the report issued by the Presidential Commission appointed to look into the Central Bank Bond scam during the previous regime and added that he should reveal 106 pages hidden by the previous regime.
“If he did so, it will reveal all the politicians and government officials involved in the bond scam,” he said.
Referring to President Rajapaksa’s accusations to Central bank officials recently, he said the economy could not be developed just by reprimanding Central bank officials and added that the government should guide the CB on government’s economic policies. He said finance minister Mahinda Rajapaksa should also take the responsibility as the CB was under his authority. “If the culprits of the Central Bank were brought to book, the Central Bank officials also will be encouraged and their efficiency will be improved,” he said.
