While claiming that Sri Lankan expatriates are in distress overseas unable to return to the country, Udayanga Weeratunge who had red notice issued against him, is engaged in bringing down tourists from high-risk Ukraine putting the whole country at risk. National Peoples’ Power (NPP) MP Vijitha Herath said on Monday
He told Parliament that the government had been unable to bring down Sri Lankan expatriates who were now stranded in Middle-Eastern countries. He said even though the government was claiming to have brought 61,000 expatriates, 68,000 more people were still waiting to return to the country, without any assistance.
MP Herath said the government had allowed Udayanga Weeratunge to bring down tourists from Ukraine violating quarantine laws and putting the country at risk.
“Ukraine is a country which has less Per Capita Income than us and has a high unemployment rate. It is also a high-risk country where Covid-19 is said to be spreading fast,” he said.
