Four people smuggling 14 satinwood logs on motorcycles without a valid permit at Kanthalai in Trincomalee were arrested on Saturday, Officers of the Department of Wildlife Conservation said.
They further said that those arrested were 25, 31 and 37 years of age from Kanthalai, Akbopura and Pottamkadu and were handed over to the Kanthalai Police.
Meanwhile, the Kanthalai Police said that on a tip-off received by the Department of Wildlife Officers the suspects were arrested by them while they were smuggling 14 satinwood logs, each eight feet in length on four motorcycles.
The police further said that that the suspects were kept under detention and would be produced before the
Kanthalai Magistrate.
