The heavy rains recently experienced had caused damages to the furniture, office equipment including computers worth over Rs.2.5 million and to important documents in the Zonal Education Director’s Office in Jayanthipura Mawatha, Anuradhapura, Anuradhapura District Secretary of Ceylon Teachers Union Asela Wijesinghe said
The flood of rainwater flowing into low-lying land where the education office is located has caused the damages to its properties.
“This situation affects the office works in preparing monthly salaries of teachers, transfer procedures due next year and also has caused damages to the properties of the office,” he said.
He requested the attention of authorities to this long-felt difficulties.
Anuradhapura Education Zone Director Ms M.M. Hettiarachchi said for the last several years they had experienced this difficulty and construction work of a new building was in progress in a different location.
“Flooding has inundated several office units including the Director’ Office,”
she said.She also said that due to the inadequacy of the space officials had to work in a congested area and there was also a scarcity of the staff.
