Sites blocked

Following the court order last week to ban over 100 pornographic local websites, the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) said that most of these sites have already been blocked as of today.

Director General of the TRC, Anusha Palpita told Daily Mirror online that they had informed the service providers of the court decision and had received a feedback that most of the sites had already been blocked.

“We have to submit a report to court on September 9, so before that we will block the 107 websites which have been mentioned,” Palpita said.

In a move to crackdown on pornographic material in the country, the Juvenile Court last week ordered a ban on 107 porn websites and local movies with adult content.

The Police Women and Children’s Bureau submitted a report to the Juvenile Court in Battaramulla seeking a ban on 107 porn websites and local movies which depict local actors and actresses involved in obscene scenes.

The court ordered the TRC to ban the websites immediately. (JN)

This is a good move. Even President Obama has banned certain sites to his children.
