Rise in political asylum trend by Pakistanis have provoked Sri Lankan authorities to revoke “On Arrival Visa” facility for Pakistani nationals.

The massive rise in cases of political asylum seekers in Sri Lankan government has contacted Pakistan’s foreign office and has apprised about new policy for Pakistani nationals visiting the country. According to revised policy, the Pakistani nationals desiring to visit Sri Lanka would require a valid pre-departure visa.

Sri Lanka has always been a close friend of Pakistan and both the countries had enjoyed close bilateral cooperation in defence and trade and Pakistan had also helped Sri Lanka in eliminating LTTE (separatist group in Sri Lanka) which resulted in peace in the country. Sri Lanka, among other SAARC countries, had been offering “On Arrival Visa” to promote people to people contacts. (nation.pk)

Long awaited excellent decision. These so called refugees from Pakistan have created trouble in certain parts of the country including getting employed illegally and even begging for survival. This should also be extended to cover Indians as well who come on pretended visits and engage in road side businesses.

It is every country;s right, so Sri Lanka used it. No doubt my fellow countrymen do indulge by in asylum seeking by making false statements of victimization. They also indulge in carrying drugs to that country and at times are nabbed and some make their way in. As suggested in some comments, same be applied to INDIA as well.

Well honestly people who want yo get into a country will do with or without a visa will do it any way even come in a boat, but we Lankan's never get on to boats and over stay visas and of course never seek asylum in any country.

Please don't forget our past not too long ago we where number one asylum seeking country in the world and even to this day we have Sri Lankan's doing the same in the in western countries and I'm talking of former LTTE but your every day citizen who got visa to developed country either by false documentation or by paying money (are we actually any better) I'm sure most of you would have done same if your home and life was destroyed by war destruction, please have helping hand and if possible a bigger heart.

If they are breaking the law by doing criminal act by all means send them packing immediately but if they are honestly asylum seekers I think it's our duty to help at least till things get better in there countries.

Indians and Pakistanis may bring all kinds of diseases such as TB. It is compulsory for Indians and Pakistanis to undergo TB tests when arriving in Dubai. This is a good move. Well done!

There are lot of Pakistanis in SL now, who received on arrival visa and engaged in drug smuggling and religious extremism. This is a good decision by the govt when looking forward about the future of the country. Pakistan is a country which is full of religious terrorism.
