UK expresses serious concern on Weliveriya incident

2013-08-07 04:33:46

Foreign and Commonwealth Office Minister of Britain Alistair Burt express serious concern on the violent disruption of the protest in Weliweriya.

In a statement posted on the government website, Burt urged the Lankan government to ensure a swift and transparent investigation into the incident.
Following is the full statement.

I note with serious concern emerging reports of the violent disruption of peaceful protests by the Sri Lankan security forces in Weliweriya on 1 August, in which at least 3 people died.

My thoughts are with the families of those who were killed or injured.

I urge the authorities to ensure the right to peaceful protest is protected and to ensure a swift and transparent investigation.

Please think about this. innocent people were killed in the Weliweriya incident. It is absolutely brutes killing. No one under any circumstances can justify this killing. When there are thousands of weaknesses on the government side, public administration and accountability in terms of this incidence, it totally wrong controlling public protest in this kind of manner. Government should take the total responsibility in this regard as they were failed to bring a solution to respecify this water pollution incident.

Half the nation killed, if questioned, they'll say 'IT'S WESTERN CONSPIRACY' and the ministers will say "yes. yes' and the monks will say 'yes, yes, yes' and the media will be blind and dumb and the ordinary people will remain blind, deaf and dumb. That is the Wonder of Asia.
