British MP disappointed

E-mail Print
British MP  Simon Danczuk who is in Sri Lanka now to push for the case regarding the murder of a British national in Tangalle in 2011, expressed disappointment over the refusal by ‘senior government ministers ‘ to meet him.

The British national was shot dead at a resort in Tangalle on the eve of the 2011 Christmas. Mr. Danczuk has arrived in the country along with the victim’s brother Nasser Shaik.

In a brief interview with the Daily Mirror in the parliamentary complex, Mr. Danczuk said he sought meetings with the senior government ministers on this issue, but they refused.

“It is disappointing. They should have met with us,” he said.

He said the slain victim was from his constituency in Britain, and therefore, he had a duty and responsibility to get the investigations into this case expedited.   Emphasizing that cases of this nature should be fast tracked, he said the rule of law had not been applied regarding this incident in Sri Lanka.
“Both Sri Lanka and Britain follow commonwealth principles. But, the rule of law had not applied in this case. We are concerned.  Fifteen months have lapsed after the incident,” he said.

Howerer, he said he interacted with MPs of Sri Lanka Parliament, who assured him to push for the case.

The visiting MP also thanked the Sri Lankan media for keeping this issue alive in the minds of people of the country.
“We especially thank the Daily Mirror for the excellent job in pursuing justice,” he said.

.Nasser Shaikh , the brother of the victim, told the Daily Mirror that there was no warm welcome for their visit from Sri Lanka.(Kelum Bandara)

Whoever seeks justice is an LTTE sympathizer.

Well what else would you call a country that harbors LTTE groups other than LTTE sympathizers?

Well said. Thats the truth. The tigers and tiger supporters display their tiger flags think UK is India, disrupt the transport and think they can take over London and this man would have thought he can just come to SL and get appointments to see ministers. He is not god!!

Have you no heart? This is not about politics (though ironically a SL politician was involved). His brother came as a tourist to our country and he was murdered...

So, now the British MP has seen and experienced the bitter truth that there is no rule of law in this country. The so called senior ministers are in no position to face the reality and truth, so they play the best game they know, i.e.hide and seek. Most of the politicians from the government party are rapists, holigans, thugs and murderers.

As a Sri Lankan I am ashamed at our country's treatment of victim's brother. I apologise to both of you.

Most of these "senior Govt ministers" are unable to speak English and do not like to hire interpreters because of possible information leaks.

I completely sympathize with the slain victim & his raped girl friend justice must be done, This visiting MP should have arranged to see a relevant Minister through their Embassy here, before coming to SL! It's foolish of him to seek audience with them after coming here! No self respecting Govt: Minister would just give off the cuff appointments to every Tom, Dick & Harry who comes visiting, just because they are from Old Blighty! The British elite wont do that to us in UK? Would they?

The topic is an important issue. The Ministers are of course so busy attending tamashas and spending public money they don't have time to sympathetically listen to a foreign MP or to a relative of a visitor to this country who was brutally murdered by political thugs. Where is the so-called self respect?

If a sri lankan "MP" went over to the UK for a similar issue, as though senior ministers would be available to meet. Sri Lankan MPs met him so that's good enough. I hope the victim's family gets justice though independant of the politics

This MP from UK is a real politician, he came all the way. I dont think our fellow will even go to the nearest police station to seek to help the victim. Y he did not meet Ranil or opposition MP's of SL

This has nothing to do with LTTE or LTTE supporters in UK. A british national was killed by a ruling party politician who is close to the president's family. No action has been taken so far. Tme after time, these things happen and the government turns a blind eye, as the criminals are often time politicians of the ruling party. Then, you expect the IC to support you in Geneva, Commonwealth to hold its meeting in Hambantota, and all that. What Rajapaksha is doing now is what Pirabakaran did around 2000-2005.

Do you think the UK Govt will see one of our MPs if a Lankan had been killed in the UK? How many have lost their lives to gangs and criminals?

He must be satisfied that he made a trip to sri lankan on tax payers money. He must be thinking he can see ministers just like that and what has he got to do with this - leave it to the authorities. Enjoy your stay and get back but use your head Minister before you come. Let the diaspora pay you money for this but not the British tax payers money.
