SL asylum seeker denied bail

A Sri Lankan asylum seeker charged with indecently assaulting a woman in her university accommodation will remain behind bars after being refused bail by a Sydney magistrate.

Appearing via audio visual link in Parramatta Local Court on Thursday, Daxchan Selvarajah, 21, was refused bail by Magistrate Michelle Goodwin, who said there was a strong likelihood of further offending.

Ms Goodwin said it was "inappropriate" to grant bail because of the serious nature of the charge.

"Of concern to me is the lack of any ties to the community by the accused," she said.

"The most important thing is the protection and welfare of the witnesses in this matter."

Police allege Selvarajah entered a unit in Culloden Road at Macquarie University about 3.30am on February 21 and put his hand down the pyjama pants of a 20-year-old female student.

He was charged with two counts of aggravated entering a dwelling with intent to commit indecent assault and one count of indecent assault.(AAP)

He has come out with the 'best idea' of his abilities to remain in Australia, even behind bar.

Now the Aussie govt can't send him back at least until he serves prison terms, if proven guilty.
